I was searching the internet this morning and I came across an account of the "duality of Gnosticism". And it occurred to me that I should comment on what this notion implies, and where a person must come from to hold such a notion.
The process of Spiritual Evolution is a gradual, slow process, and it involves a great many steps. In fact, let us consider the image of a huge ladder. Let's call this ladder the Ladder of Life, or LOL.
Every Soul that has committed to Life.... and not all Souls have done so... has committed to a cycle of birth and death. And this cycle is known in the East, much more than in the West. In the West, since so many people are taught that they only have one life to live... most people ignore the concept of Reincarnation. Or the fact that every Soul that has committed to Life is part of a cycle of birth and death that is part of the Purpose of Life.
Each time ones Soul is born into a new physical body, one receives a new brain, a new personality and a new psychology based on the Fate Karma one designed for ones present life. And usually... ones MIND insures that one has no memory of ones past life. Therefore, for those born in the West, there is a tendency to "think" that one has not lived previously.... and with the mistaken influence of the Christian notion that one only has one life to live... many people are deluded regarding the Reality of Life. A secret known only to mystics [or those who study mysticism], is that within the Astral and Causal regions of Creation, there are numberless Souls that are perfectly content to enjoy existing within those regions. These Souls have no interest in "committing to Life" [or the cycle of birth and death] that we Souls on this physical plane have committed to. Souls that commit to Life must do so on their own. So, if you are reading this, you have chosen to commit to Life.
And every Soul that has committed to Life [the cycle of birth and death] resides on some rung of the Ladder of Life [an analogy to help explain the maturation of the Soul]. And what allows a Soul to ascend the Ladder of Life, or LOL, is "CDKA&EU" [Conscience, Discretion, Knowledge, Acceptance and Empathetic Understanding], or the Virtues of Life that we Souls are slowly acquiring by "completing Karma" over many, many lifetimes. And this entire process is virtually unknown in the West, and this means in America.
The bottom rungs of the LOL are very wide to accommodate the many Souls on the lower rungs of the LOL. As the rungs ascend, they get narrower because they have fewer Souls to accommodate. And since it is Spiritual Evolution [or the completion of Karma over many, many lifetimes] that is required to ascend the LOL, those Souls on the lower rungs have less CDKA&EU. But even a small amount of CDKA&EU causes the MIND of a Soul to imagine it is much more advanced than it is. This is called Spiritual Ego. Ego is in direct proportion to how much or how little MIND is involved with the decision making of a Soul. The more CDKA&EU a Soul acquires, the more self-regulating the Soul becomes, and the less control by the MIND is required. And the higher the rung of the LOL ones Soul is perched upon, the higher relative truths one awakens to. Enlightenment of the Soul is tied to how much CDKA&EU ones Soul has acquired, which in turn determines which rung of the LOL ones Soul is perched upon. And this process takes many, many lifetimes.
So, the notion that one has "one life to live" is grossly mistaken.
The natural consequence of a Soul ascending the LOL is a diminishing of Ego, pride, and the mistaken notion that one is more Enlightened than one is. So, out of hand, we might suggest to ourselves that those who toot their horns the loudest are the least Enlightened. Humility is the natural consequence of numerous experiences of humiliation. And this is all Grace [which means Life attending to its job], which is not easily won... since it comes as a consequence of a Soul doing the work necessary to acquire CDKA&EU, or "C,etc" for short. My point is simply this: Gnosticism is just like Spirituality. In fact Gnosticism is another word for Spirituality. We might say that the term Gnosticism is the subtle "evidence" that a Soul has acquired C,etc to such an extent that the person [within whose Soul this acquisition has taken place] is now experiencing the impact of the rising Spirituality within him/herself. and as one ascends the LOL, one automatically acquires higher and higher relative truths. These in turn automatically erase ones earlier beliefs causing one to behave with more "insight", humility [the effects of C,etc].
It is important to realize that Gnosticism is not a religion. To suggest that Gnosticism is a religion is imprecise, and thus, wrong . Gnosticism is the experience of the impact of Spirituality within oneself, as manifested in ones possession of higher beliefs regarding the Reality of Life, and a belief in God; The Structure of Life; The Law of Karma; And finally, the absolute need to find a Perfect Living Master so as to obtain "initiation" from that Master. Only after such initiation should one engage in serious meditation. Prior to such initiation, the MIND can easily lead one astray.
To seek to share ones experience of Spirituality with others in a collective way is a natural desire, but when one tries to do this, one misses a subtle and crucial point. The Energy of Spirituality does not exist on this physical plane. It does not even exist within the physical universe. Spirituality is the Energy of the Soul, of God, and of the Spiritual dimension. To touch ones own Spirituality, one can only use ones Soul, or its Operational Energy, which I identify as the Apapsyche.
The MIND will never experience the Energy of Spirituality..... because the vibrational nature of the MIND is different than that of Spirituality. The Energy of Spirituality is too subtle for the MIND to experience. And since the MIND itself is too subtle for the brain to perceive, this means that the Energy of Spirituality is far too subtle for the brain to experience. This point of permanent differentiation between the brain, the MIND, and ones Soul is an Absolute, but because it is the nature of the MIND to "cause" the brain to "think" it does "know" what "abstract terms" stand for, or point to... the brain automatically "thinks" that it does "know" what abstract terms stand for.
In other words, most psychologists today "think" they know what the MIND is, but if pressed on this mistaken notion, these psychologists would have to admit that they do not actually Know what the MIND is? And thus, they also fail to comprehend what it does or how it operates? B.F. Skinner, the well-known "psychologist" who came up with the delusional notion called "behaviorism", is quoted in a book written by Richard Evans, B.F. Skinner: The Man and His Ideas, as saying "...there is nothing within a person that can explain that person's present behavior..." .
Skinner was a typical Intelack individual, and a perfect example of the "Malady of Intellectualism", or M-I. That is, someone relatively new to the form of human being and someone limited to use of his brain and thinking.... which means limited to exploration of the physical dimension ONLY. His lack of understanding of Psychology was consistent with intellectualism. Or people confined to the brain and thinking as the primary means of understanding the world.
The fact is, ones Soul has never actually been separate from God, and the goal of the Soul is to re-unite with God, and to do that which fulfills that goal. It is understandable that in the early stages of becoming Enlightened [and this might take several lifetimes], one will seek to share [and thus validate] ones own experience. But as ones experience of ones own Spirituality increases, it is expected one would discover that Spiritual Energy, like that of Truth, cannot be conveyed on this physical plane. So acquisition of Spirituality is strictly a personal affair. One can share in terms of this physical plane.... words, terms and concepts that "point to" what one has experienced of ones own Spirituality, but ones actual experience is strictly ones own! The "experience" of Spirituality "within" oneself can only be experienced by ones Apapsyche ... and nothing of this can be conveyed on this physical plane. It can be "shared" by "Intuition", but Intuition takes place on the Spiritual dimension. We often think that our Intuition is part of our thinking, but Intuition is a part of ones Spiritual dimension. Intuition has nothing to do with ones brain or its thinking.
The whole point of all this, I suppose, is to stress the fact that ones time spent in personal search for personal Enlightenment is an exercise that takes place entirely "within" oneself. This search can be referred to as Gnosticism, but let us not confuse this purely "internal" activity with the "external" activity known as "religion".

Gnosticism part 2
How do we successfully combine Gnosticism and Psychology and comprehension of the Esoteric dimensions of Man? I believe the honest answer is.... we cannot do so, if.... we confine ourselves to our brains and thinking. I do not wish to belabor this point, but this is a crucial and normally overlooked point, it needs to be emphasized. It is also the whole point of this blog.... to explain how the majority of professionals are "mistaken" regarding the subject of Gnosticism, or in the larger sense, the Esoteric dimensions of Man and of Life itself.
Am I likely to do this without offending the very professionals I seek to awaken to my point? Not much chance of this, probably. So, allow me to apologize here for my lack of ability in this regard. But then, I am perhaps in some very good company? None of those presenting the Esoteric over history have been successful in finding a general acceptance of their efforts. Much too easy for the MIND to convince those confined to intellectualism that we who point to the Esoteric dimensions of Life are just nuts.
If I were to say that each person is at a unique place relative to his or her Spiritual Evolution, what would this statement mean to you? There is obviously overflow, and overrun of a persons understanding of both Life [which is mostly Esoteric] and ones culture and environment. This means we draw from both an inside and an outside resource for our understanding of ourselves and of Life. What we have not been taught in America, or in much of the world for that matter, is that we are fundamentally schizophrenic entities. Each of us is both the Reality of Life and the illusion of life.... at the same time.
That people often perceive themselves as strangely out of sync with their environment is not delusional, it is an actual and proper perception of the reality going on within and without themselves. What makes ones experience seem incongruous is that one is unaware that this experience is the way Life is always occurring, but most of the time one is only observing Life from the physical perspective. While ones Attn Aspect of Apapsyche is fixed in ones brain, one can only be aware of the physical dimension of life.
It is only when ones Attn Aspect of Apapsyche is shifting from the physical dimension to some Esoteric dimension [reflecting something within ones Esoteric dimensions that is active] that one becomes aware of a duality, or split in ones experiencing of Life. One can react to this experience as either interested in discovering more, or one can become disturbed, frightened, and attempt to deny what one is experiencing. Most people become frightened and confused, and if this experience persists then the person seeks help. Alas, 95% of the time, the person will be diagnosed as delusional and drugs will be recommended to help the persons brain interfere with his/her awareness. The MIND simply can't communicate with a brain that is drugged. At least not effectively.
This practice of dealing with people is common because those in charge of mental health in America are fearful of the Esoteric dimensions of themselves, and in this they are simply following the path set out for them by B.F. Skinner, and his "behaviorism", which was a physical manifestation of the Defense Mechanism of his own MIND as an intellectualized format that can be replicated by virtually anyone. All one needs today to be a fully licensed professional in mental health is a brain that is capable of memorizing pages and pages of erroneous speculation regarding what others think might be the psychology of Man? All of this confined to and based on the physical operation of the brain and thinking, and a complete denial of the Esoteric 3/4ths of Man.
The MIND and Spiritual dimensions of Man are excluded entirely. And the result of this has been a slow but continuous denial of 3/4ths of Reality, as Man has been taught to deny anything that cannot be "proven" to exist. This means that Man has been busy trying to deny 3/4ths of himself and Life. The state of many nations today is due to greed, envy and avarice, all basic elements of the MIND. As Man denies 3/4ths of himself, his environment reflects this denial.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending upon how one looks at it, this drift into negativity is coming to a close on December 21, 2012. At least this is my take on what is coming our way on this date. I believe we are about to experience the end of the Iron Age of Man and the beginning of the next Golden Age of Man, in which the entire Earth resonates with Spiritual Energy for many thousands of years. This coincides with both the Mayan calendar and the Bible in many ways. We will just have to wait and see.....?
The Gnostics were unusual in their own time. They did not represent the mass of their culture. They represented a small minority of people, who in various degrees were Enlightened sufficiently to realize the Spirituality within themselves. The idea that two people, each appearing essentially the same, would possess two entirely different levels of "Consciousness", or ability to experience Reality, is a very difficult concept to embrace and to comprehend. How one of these two could experience from within himself a "bit of Truth" that is stimulated by some symbol in this book , while another person, seemingly the same as far as appearance goes, would be fully incapable of even "seeing" what that symbol contains.... is too much for most people to accept.
This dichotomy is too difficult for many people to imagine, or to hold as part of what they can believe. Again, the Thinker type individual simply cannot grasp this concept, and the Enlightened type individual can't imagine that everyone isn't capable of awakening to these "bits of Truth" routinely. Two very different types of people, and neither type realizes each is different.
So, some people will get what I am saying.... as they Intuit it just as naturally as anything, while other people will not have a clue as to what they are missing while reading this blog. And there is no way to convey to those who are unable to experience the symbols of this blog what they are missing.
The term Gnosticism refers to the Spiritual Energy active within those who can experience from within themselves the "bits of Truth" that the symbols in this blog stimulate within the Apapsyche of these people, and those who cannot "see" what this blog offers simply do not possess the Gnosticism to enable them to "see". They are not as yet "ready" to awaken to such Truths. And this is neither good nor bad, but it is the way of Life. It is a reality of Life that will be well Known after December 21, 2012, is my belief.

REGARDING GNOSTICISM part 1
Let us begin by taking a novel direction. Man is a duality. That is, there is what we can see and think about, and there is a larger portion of ourselves that we cannot see nor think about using our brains and physical senses. This second part is/are the "Esoteric" Man. And in the West, we are truly ignorant regarding the Esoteric dimensions of Man. The Esoteric dimensions of oneself comprise ones MIND and Spiritual dimensions, and neither of these can be perceived by ones brain or physical senses.
In other words.... it is not possible to discover these Esoteric dimensions of oneself by use of ones brain or its thinking. And this last sentence needs to be read several times... because our inability to grasp what this means.... is substantial, and actively blocking ones comprehension of this basic fact of Life is ones own MIND.
I am introducing the reader to a bit of Reality here that is not well known. Not known by most people outside of those who have studied "mysticism" extensively. And not known to those who are "confined to their brains" as their principle means of studying Life. Not known, in other words, to intellectuals or scholars.... even in fields where such understanding would be expected.
The fact is.... the term Gnosticism is an "abstract term". That is, it is a term that was created to "point to" the existence of an "Esoteric" phenomenon that cannot actually be seen nor experienced by use of ones brain, or ones physical senses. And this "situation" presents something of a dilemma to Man that is not generally taken into account.
As human beings, we have a penchant for labeling something we cannot see, nor made known by physical means, by giving that "something" a label, and then listing the "symptoms" that which we associate with what we believe may be "caused" by what we have labeled.... and in this process we subtly forget that what we have labeled is NOT the physical phenomena we can see and list as what we believe is associated with what we do not "know".
Do you follow me in what I have just said? Because what I have attempted to say is speaking to an extremely delicate point that cannot be experienced by ones brain.... except as an abstract concept. I am saying that we miss entirely the unyielding fact that what we "think" we know, because we can hold the label of something in our brains, is not in fact "KNOWN" to us. Known in the sense of having actually experienced what our abstract label "points to".
In other words, our MINDs cause us to embrace a delusional idea [wherein we hold the belief that we "know" something we have labeled [but have not actually experienced] because we "know" [have used our physical senses to observe] physical phenomena that we believe might be associated with that something, or might be "caused" by that something.
This associative belief that what we "think" might be caused by that which we have not experienced [but have labeled] is a trick of our MINDs. The MIND has the capacity of feeding what I refer to as "Delusional Thinking" to the Left-Hemisphere of the brain, and the brain, unable to differentiate this D-Think from its own thinking, believes this D-Think is true. In this way we are subtly caused to assume that we know what we have labeled because we can experience what we "think" is being caused by what we have labeled.
This entire process is labeled "speculation" by intellectuals, thus clearly indicating that they realize what they are doing is assuming something as a possibility.... But what is lost is the fact that none of the speculation has anything to do with what the label "stands for". A person is caused to subtly substitute the fact that one has not actually experienced what the label "stands for"... to a belief that one now "knows" what the label "means" because one can observe something one assumes is "caused" by what one has labeled.
We are easily caused by our MINDs to "forget" that the label of a thing is not what that label "stands for". And this subtle substitution is a bit of subtle duplicitous "insanity" that takes place at levels within our MINDs as part of its role to insure that we remain unaware of it, and what it holds hidden within itself. And all of this takes place within the Esoteric portion of oneself that ones brain cannot perceive. None of this operation is intellectual. And none of it can be discovered by intellectual means. The ONLY way to discover this is by use of ones Intuition operating within the Esoteric dimensions within oneself.
People trained in modern mental health use the terms "brain" and "mind" interchangeably. Do they not realize that the brain is physical, and the MIND is not only not physical, it does not exist within the physical universe? The answer is no, they do not realize this because they have been trained by people who fail to recognize [or have forgotten] the fact that the "abstract term" MIND is not the label "m i n d". The label is not what it "stands for".
By careless and "natural" Delusional Thinking encouraged by the MIND of Man, individuals in modern mental health speak of the "mind" continually, and not one one in a thousand of them has any idea what the MIND is? And yet, they write books in which they talk "about" the "mind" and what it does. What are they writing about? What could they possibly imagine they know?
The MIND of Man is Esoteric. It is composed of the energies of the Astral region of Creation and the Causal region of Creation. The Astral energy representing the lower MIND, and the Causal energy representing the higher MIND. And neither energy is capable of being perceived by the brain of Man. Except as "emotional" energy, which is rarely considered to be part of the MIND.
My point? My point is simply this: Any person capable of writing can "think" he knows whatever his MIND causes him to think he "knows". The tragic Truth is, the fact a person writes something does not make what is written True. And with so few people in possession of the Truth regarding the MIND, who points to what people write to indicate that it is untruthful, misleading, and false?
Without a serious restructuring of who should be instructing Mankind, we are likely to remain a nation of people being lead by those who can convey Delusional Thinking in the most interesting way?
How many of those writing "about" Gnosticism "Know" what the abstract term Gnosticism actually "stands for"? And if they do not Know the Esoteric Reality that the term Gnosticism "stands for", what then are they doing other than demonstrating their egos. Who are they trying to convince of what? The fact is.... Gnosticism is another word for Spirituality, and Spirituality cannot be conveyed on this physical plane by physical means.
